What are the best places to eat in Madrid? This is a great question! There are so many amazing restaurants and great foods to try - from classic Spanish tapas to delicacies from around the world. Food is a way of life in Madrid and it's easy to sink in, grab a table and enjoy. But with so many choices, it can be challenging to pick a place.



Our recommendations

In a video from our trip to Madrid, we share 8 great places to eat and drink that we discovered near Plaza Mayor - a hub of activity and a meeting point for locals and tourists alike. Plaza Mayor is the perfect place to start exploring the city and a great place to grab a bit to eat!


Coffee and sweets

Belus - If you're like us and you need a strong coffee to start your day, visit Belus for café con leche. The perfect pick me up. We think it's the best coffee near Plaza Mayor!


Chocolateria San Ginés - Stop here for classic churros and tasty coffee. You can definitely satisfy your sweet tooth here and it's open 24 hours a day, which means you can always find a time to stop in!


Zuccaru - If you're exploring the area near Palacio Real we highly recommend stopping at Zuccaru! It's a great place to grab a gelato before enjoying the gardens nearby.


Tapas

Casa Revuelta - There is no better place for authentic tapas in Madrid. We recommend making your way here and trying the bacalao! It's hot, delicious and an absolute must!


Mercado de San Miguel - If you want to try a bunch of different dishes all in one place, be sure to visit Mercado de San Miguel. This place is popular with tourists so it can get busy, but it's a great spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can even take yourself on a tapas crawl. Check ours out below!


La Musa Latina - For a mix of classic tapas and tapas with a twist, don't miss La Musa Latina. This place has a bustling atmosphere and delicious dishes. Our favourite? The bambas!


Dinner and drinks

Bahiana Club - Nestled on a quiet street, dining here gives you the chance to enjoy a Madrid neighbourhood away from the tourist craze. The food here is delicious and the people and atmosphere are totally inviting. They also have amazing cocktails which makes a visit here a very special experience.



Salmon Guru - One of our favourite experiences in Madrid was a visit to the quirky and cool Salmon Guru - one of the world's top bars! Their drinks are unique, over the top and totally delicious. We even had a cocktail mixed by one of the world's top bartenders!
